Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Three women of the same family were found dead with their wrists slit at their residence in the Tangra area of eastern Kolkata on Wednesday morning. The deceased included a woman, her teenage daughter, and another female relative. Their bodies were discovered when police arrived at the house while investigating a separate road accident involving the husband of one of the women. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and officials stated that the cause of death—whether suicide or murder—will be confirmed after the autopsy.
According to police sources, the husband met with an accident near Ruby Crossing on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass early Wednesday. During the investigation, traffic police found his identity documents and traced his address to Tangra. Upon reaching the residence, officers found the three women dead inside. There were no immediate signs of forced entry, and neighbors reported they had not observed any unusual behavior from the deceased in recent days. A team from the homicide department, along with senior officials, including the joint commissioner (crime), arrived at the scene to oversee the investigation.
Officials have begun questioning family members, neighbors, and acquaintances to gather details about the incident. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to determine any suspicious activity. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will follow once forensic and autopsy reports provide more clarity.
